Come see us at the Northland Medical Managers Symposium

November 4th, 2011

We’re excited to be at the Northland Medical Managers (NMM) 2011 Annual Symposium in Kansas City today. If you’re attending, be sure to stop by booth No. 51 and say hello to UV&S team members Dennis Friedl and Lisa Mayer.

NMM has put together a great lineup of speakers and breakout sessions on topics affecting health care administrators and managers. We have great respect for the challenges facing health care organizations, especially in the area of compliant records storage.

We’re looking forward to seeing our old friends and making new ones. Hope to see you there!

Retired and still stuck with paperwork?

July 5th, 2011

It can be difficult for a doctor to retire, but it doesn’t have to be.

Patient medical records don’t go away just because a doctor closes up shop and prepares for retirement. And it may be months or even years down the road when a patient has need of a specific document. Without proper planning, doctors can find themselves stuck sifting through old paperwork rather than sifting sand through their toes at the beach.

The best plan, of course, is to find someone else to manage all of that old paperwork for you, but medical records come with rules, compliances, legislation and security concerns. You need a partner who can jump through all of the hoops gracefully — on a budget.

The right partner can ensure that all of your critical documents are securely stored and accessible when needed, and scan, convert and deliver documents on demand. By finding the right partner and then notifying patients and allowing them individual access to their records, a doctor can truly retire.

At UVS, we’ve been partnering with retiring doctors for years. We can store, manage and prepare for the eventual destruction of your medical records — and the doctor can forget about them completely. Play with the grandkids, enjoy a round of golf, or take a vacation to the moon — we’ll handle it from here.

Curbing the cost of compliance

May 20th, 2011

doctor computerThe conversion to electronic medical records (EMR) has a lot of businesses scrambling to maintain compliance — and not just healthcare organizations, but their business partners as well. But what a lot of these organizations don’t realize is that not all medical records need to be transferred to electronic format, particularly older records. And there is a pile of money to be saved by storing older records in a secure, off-site location rather than scanning every file in the building.

“But, what if I need to access those files?” you ask.

The simple answer is “You can.” And you don’t even need to leave your office.

By working with the right vendor, you can ensure that all of your critical documents are securely stored and accessible when you need them, typically by receiving scanned documents via email upon request. A good records and information management system addresses the storage of your physical documents as well as document conversion, imaging and scanning activities. At UVS, we have helped clients implement such systems and seen very positive effects for their bottom line.

It just isn’t cost effective to convert everything in the office to electronic format when it’s easy to store it at a very reasonable price and convert items as you need them. In an economy where everyone is looking to save money where they can, it makes sense to investigate all of your options.
